NORCAT
provides equipment,
facilities, and expertise to
enable companies to develop
and test new technologies,
prototypes and processes in
order to improve designs and
develop new solutions to
technical problems.
Since its inception,
NORCAT has
assisted clients with the
development of over 300
prototypes.
Prototypes have been
completed in a number of
areas including electric
motor technology, radio
remote drive packages for
underground equipment,
portable boring tools,
underground communications,
and underwater search and
retrieval equipment.

By focusing on development,
NORCAT is closing the gap
between research and innovation (on the up-stream side of
the development process) and commercialization and the startup of new business ventures (on the down-stream side).
NORCAT developed an assistive working platform know as the
Liberator Workstation. It is a command activated (voice or
keystroke), fully automated, mechanized platform that alters
the position/inclination relative to the worker when a
change is desired.
Another project resulted in the biofilter – an aesthetically
pleasing unit designed to reduce air pollutants by employing
the principles of hydroponics and phytoremediation.
Pollutants are absorbed by plants through the root system,
thereby improving indoor air quality.

Other
products developed include a remote control rover which
could be used for land mine detection and first response of
tactical squads, a submersible vehicle for SAR (search and
rescue) and an
automated bag folder.
