Lunar Regolith

In the process of developing and testing mining equipment for the moon, NORCAT recognized the need for a test medium that could simulate some of the physical properties of lunar material (regolith).

That led to the development of a series of simulants in conjunction with local company Electric Vehicle Controllers Ltd. (EVC) who engaged the University of New Brunswick in their efforts. EVC is currently pursuing mass production of a lunar highlands physical regolith simulant known as OB-1.

NORCAT
has used this material in a variety of testing of planetary excavation equipment and it has been the simulant of choice for a number of demonstrations for NASA and the Canadian Space Agency.
