NORCAT and Partners Unite to Improve Safety, Productivity and Sustainability in the Global Mining Industry

Toronto, ON. NORCAT, the global leader in skilled labour training and development and innovation services, together with their technology partners, are excited to announce the launch of the Mining Technology Innovation Challenge, a Canada-wide competition for innovators to create 5G applications to enhance safety, productivity and operational improvements in the global mining industry. As part of the challenge, innovative start-ups and entrepreneurs from across Canada will develop and test technologies on the Rogers 5G Wireless Private Network at the Rogers Technology Centre of Excellence at the NORCAT Underground Centre in Sudbury, Ontario. These solutions, focused on safety, productivity, energy efficiency, and environmental impact, will also leverage edge technologies by Dell and ultra-fast speeds and ultra-low latency on the Rogers 5G network. Partners of NORCAT supporting the Mining Technology Innovation Challenge include Rogers Communications (Rogers), a leading Canadian technology and media company, and the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), in collaboration with The Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator (MICA) and Dell Technologies.

Rogers launches Technology Centre of Excellence at NORCAT to enable and expedite the future of smart mining

Today, Rogers Communications together with NORCAT, a global leader in the development and provision of skilled labour training and innovation services, announced a five-year strategic relationship to accelerate technology adoption in the global mining industry. Through this collaboration, Rogers will establish the Rogers Technology Centre of Excellence at the NORCAT Underground Centre to bring innovative new solutions to life and increase efficiency, safety, and productivity in the global mining industry. "As part of our commitment to driving leading-edge innovation within mining, construction, and other industrial sectors, our collaboration with NORCAT and the launch of the Rogers Technology Centre of Excellence will foster unique opportunities to engage with likeminded organizations and emerging technology companies," said Tom Turner, President, Rogers Business. The Government of Canada invests in the NORCAT Underground Centre as the place to see and touch emerging technologies that are poised to transform the global mining industry

Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Canada’s Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister Responsible for FedNor, announced an investment of $1.3 million to enhance and expand the capabilities of the NORCAT Underground Centre with a series of initiatives in direct alignment with the federal government’s Critical Mineral Strategy. This includes, among others, the mandate to drive critical mineral research, innovation and exploration to boost the supply of critical minerals to grow domestic and global value chains for the green and digital economy.
