Job Position: NORCAT Innovation – Associate (Full-time, Contract)

Location: NORCAT - Sudbury

Duration: Full Time

Salary: $45,000 - $50,000 Annually

About NORCAT Innovation:

As Sudbury’s Regional Innovation Centre, NORCAT Innovation is focused on supporting early-stage tech startups and the people founding them. We help by providing access to key resources and connections to the networks they need to start, grow and scale their ventures.

NORCAT Innovation – Associate: This is a full-time, 12-month contract position. The expected end date is April 30, 2026, with the possibility of an extension.

Reporting to the Manager, Innovation, the Associate will work closely with the NORCAT Innovation team to coordinate the development, implementation and overall operation of the Regional Innovation Centre’s entrepreneurship programming, special projects, and events. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting our flagship programs (Core5 and CIT), providing hands-on support to entrepreneurs, and ensuring the success of a variety of events, conferences, and tech exhibitions.

We encourage creativity in every aspect of this position, from day-to-day operations to the design and launch of new programs and events. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the role into your own, bringing fresh ideas and innovative approaches to support our thriving startup community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Innovation Centre staff with the coordination, operation, and administration of programs
  • Work with NORCAT Innovation mentors to provide support with client intakes, follow-ups, meeting and event scheduling/production, and identifying key resources needed by NORCAT Innovation clients
  • Gather key metrics on start-up clients and craft reports related to program activities, outcomes, and client feedback for funders, government partners, and community stakeholders
  • Support and assist with program reviews and analysis to help determine gaps and/or areas of improvement
  • Ensure programs are achieving milestones on time and within budget
  • Liaise and collaborate with community stakeholders and enabling organizations to develop new opportunities to further support the local startup ecosystem

  • Other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Strong writer and communicator
  • Ability to work through complex problems and celebrate that day one will never look like day two at NORCAT
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills – it can get very busy at NORCAT, given the continued growth in our start-up tech portfolio
  • Self-starter and works well in a team setting
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Provides excellent customer service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree not required. Related experience in a project/program support role is considered an asset
  • Must be a strong writer and communicator
  • Experience in an entrepreneurial / business environment considered an asset
  • English (oral reading and writing) is required; French (oral, reading and writing) is considered an asset.

Given multiple NORCAT locations, the ideal candidate will have a valid driver's license and vehicle to travel between various locations occasionally.

Job Position: Trainer (Part-time)

Location: NORCAT - Timmins

Duration: Part Time

Salary: $44 - $46 per hour

Trainer (Part-time, Timmins)

Reporting to the General Manager - Timmins, the Trainer will administer various training programs offered by NORCAT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the delivery of health and safety programs. Courses include but are not limited to:

  1. Surface Miner Common Core
  2. First Line Underground Supervisor Common Core
  3. Generic First Line Supervisor
  4. Heavy Equipment Operator
  5. Working at Heights
  6. Train the Trainer
  7. JHSC Part 1 and Part 2

  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of current and new training material
  • Assist in marketing efforts to secure specific training and development contracts with companies in the Timmins area when required
  • Assist in the development of a pipeline of customer prospects for NORCAT by selling services to potential customers in the Timmins area when required
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Minimum of three to five years of facilitation/training experience (Adult Education)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Five or more years of working experience in either surface, underground mining, forestry and or construction operations
  • A Certificate in a ‘Train the Trainer’ program would be an asset
  • Strong leadership, multi-tasking and communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Travel within Ontario is required
  • The ability to travel within Canada and internationally is an asset
  • Work experience in health and safety consulting is an asset
