Duration: Part Time

Salary: $44-$46 per hour

Industrial Trainer – Mining, Equipment and Safety (Part-time)

Reporting to the Timmins General Manager, the Trainer will train students in NORCAT's training programs across mining, forestry, heavy equipment operations, supervision, and workplace health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver health and safety programs and training. Courses include but are not limited to:

Surface Miner Common Core
First Line Underground Supervisor Common Core
Generic First Line Supervisor
Heavy Equipment Operator
Working at Heights
Train the Trainer
JHSC Part 1 and 2

Participate in the development and continuous improvement of current and new training material
Assist in marketing efforts to secure specific training and development contracts with companies in the Timmins area when required
Assist in the development of a pipeline of customer prospects for NORCAT by selling services to potential customers in the Timmins area when required
Other duties as required

Requirements / Qualifications:

Five or more years of work experience in either surface or underground mining, forestry and/or construction operations is required.
A minimum of three to five years of training experience (Adult Education) in an underground mining, forestry and/or construction environment is required.
Experience in heavy equipment operation is required.
Strong leadership, multitasking, and communication skills are required.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills are required.
Travel within Ontario is required.
Bilingualism is an asset.
Strong presentation skills are required.
A certificate in a ‘Train the Trainer’ program would be an asset.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to travel within Canada and internationally is an asset.
Work experience in health and safety consulting is an asset.

Underground Mine Supervisor - NORCAT Underground Centre

Job Position: Underground Mine Supervisor

Location: NORCAT Underground Centre in Onaping, Ontario

Duration: Full Time

Salary: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 annually

Position Description:

NORCAT is a not-for-profit organization based in Sudbury, Ontario, with locations in Onaping, Timmins, Thunder Bay and the Greater Toronto Area. NORCAT is an international leader in skilled labour training and development and in mining technology innovation. The NORCAT Underground Centre in Onaping is an operating underground mine. It is a hands-on training centre for the next generation of mine workers, and a place where companies develop, test and demonstrate new mining technology in a real mine.

Underground Mine Supervisor (Full-time)

NORCAT is hiring an Underground Mine Supervisor to own the day-to-day supervision of the NORCAT Underground Centre. Reporting to the Director, NORCAT Underground Centre, you will be the supervisor in charge of the mine: responsible for the safety of everyone underground, for the mine's procedures, examinations and records, and for the safe running of practical training and technology demonstrations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced underground supervisor who sets safety standard and expects others to meet it. What you will do

Supervise all work underground on each shift: training areas, mine services, maintenance and technology demonstrations.
Carry out the workplace examinations the regulation requires and keep the shift records, including the end-of-shift record of any risk not yet mitigated.
Ensure mobile equipment is being inspected and tested before use, defects are reported, and unsafe equipment is taken out of service.
Apply health and safety management programs.
Keep the fire and emergency procedures current, posted and understood.
Report and investigate incidents with the Director, NORCAT Underground Centre, and see corrective actions through.
Work with the trainers so that practical training runs safely.
Ensure NORCAT Underground Centre staff have the required training before being assigned work.
Keep procedures, programs and records current, work with the Health and Safety Representative, and support Ministry inspections.
Complete NORCAT’s Train the Trainer program and be approved by the signing authority to deliver the common core modules you hold, and act as a back-up trainer when a trainer is absent.
