Job Position: Maintenance Technician/ Custodian (Full-time)

Location: Sudbury

Duration: Full Time

Salary: $45,000 - $52,000 Annually

Maintenance Technician/ Custodian (Full-time)

Working with the Lead Maintenance Technician/Custodian, the incumbent will be responsible for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the NORCAT Centre. This includes performing routine maintenance tasks, troubleshooting equipment issues and ensuring the facility is clean and well-maintained at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a facility which is clean and inviting.
  • Assist with groundskeeping including snow and ice removal from walkways, entrances, bay doors and sand/salt walkways as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, filters etc.
  • Troubleshoot and assist with minor repairs within the building as necessary.
  • Maintain all equipment including janitorial equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from staff and tenants and address issues in a timely manner.
  • Move furniture and equipment (may include operating a forklift) as needed.
  • Perform day-to-day janitorial tasks including but not limited to:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, sinks, countertops, furniture etc.
  • Vacuum, sweep, dry/wet mop and polish hard surface floors including restroom floors.
  • Empty all trash/recycle bins and clean them regularly as necessary
  • Assist with setting up and tearing down for events and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements / Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in maintenance, custodial or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if needed.
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor settings.

Job Position: Underground Hard Rock Mines Service Type Common Core Trainer (Part-time)

Location: NORCAT Underground Centre in Onaping, Ontario

Duration: Part Time

Salary: $30-$35 per hour

Underground Hard Rock Mines Service Type Common Core Trainer (Part-time)

Reporting to the Director, Underground Centre, the Trainer will be responsible for training students in the Underground Hard Rock Mines Service Type Common Core MLITSD P#770225 modules. This program typically runs 3 times per week. The Trainer will work with trainees instructing them on the many procedures and safety concepts of working in a service position in the underground environment. The emphasis of the training delivery method will be lecture and practical hands-on training.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of trainees and instruct them on the many procedures and safety concepts of working in a service position in the underground environment. Ensure delivery of training complies with Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) standards as outlined in the standards booklet for each training module to be delivered.
  • Ensure adherence to NORCAT safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to NORCAT safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and/or administer select training and development programs as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Director, Underground Centre.


Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Must be certified in Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core MLITSD Program # 770010 and Program # 770225 (please submit official transcripts for review).
  • A certificate in the ‘Train the Trainer’ program would be an asset.
  • Strong leadership, multi-tasking, and communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
