Job Position: UI/UX Designer

Position Description:

NORCAT is looking for an exceptional person to join the NORCAT Studio team as a UI/UX Designer. The successful candidate will work in a team with other skilled designers and developers on various XR Projects, Web, Desktop, Mobile, and Internal Tools. The successful candidate will be involved all aspects of the design process from concept to finished product including planning and implementing wireframes, interfaces, and layouts. The successful candidate should have strong understanding of design patterns and visual acuity, willingness to learn, grow and work within a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating user-centered designs by understanding business requirements, and user feedback
  • Creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes and mock-ups
  • Translating requirements into style guides, design systems, design patterns and attractive user interfaces
  • Designing UI elements, interfaces and crafting unique engaging layouts for web, apps, and tools.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of brand standard including logo types, and photography.
  • Design accessible solutions according to WCAG guidelines
  • Create and maintain a collection of various visual assets.
  • Working alongside engineering teams and front-end developers ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Identifying and troubleshooting UX problems
  • Incorporating customer feedback, usage metrics, and usability findings into daily workflows.
  • Collaborating effectively with product, engineering, and management teams.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience designing for web, mobile and desktop.
  • Portfolio of past work showcasing your design abilities.
  • Excellent proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and the Adobe Creative Suite in general.
  • Familiarity with Figma and other visual design and layout tools.
  • Familiarity with CSS and HTML.
  • In-depth experience designing wireframes, mock-ups, interfaces, final layouts, icons, and supporting material.
  • Understanding of design patterns for web, mobile, desktop and tools.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and cares deeply about design and visual quality standards.
  • Ability to express ideas visually from sketches and simple thumbnails to elaborate storyboards
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, positive, and professional manner within the organization
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Must have excellent English communication skills; both verbal and written.

Job Position: Mining EIT (Engineer-In-Training)

Location: Sudbury, Ontario

Duration: Full Time

Position Description:

As a Mining EIT, you will work closely with our highly energized mining team with responsibility for performing entry level engineering work and assistance on small to large-scale projects. You will execute, coordinate, and expedite a succession of different engineering activities. This includes participating in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.

You are a leader in our highly energized mining team with responsibility for engineering work, from concepts to the mine closure phase. You plan, manage, and complete strategic, tactical, and operational studies, with excellent technical, financial, and social solutions for our clients.

Open pit CAD design experience would be an asset. • Must have a good understanding of the Deswik Stope Optimizer (Deswik.SO) process to automatically create mineable stope shapes.
  • Oversee the preparation of mining engineering drawings and 3D designs.
  • Write reports for mining projects (scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility studies and detailed engineering).
  • Assess and evaluate mine locations, site layouts, mine plans, processing plans, commercial advantages, and sustainability requirements to manage and optimize value extraction for surface and underground deposits.
  • Act as Qualified Person for Technical Reports under NI 43-101 regulations.
  • Assist with the development of designs and plans for a variety of underground mining methods, mine infrastructure, geotechnical, backfill, ventilation systems, material movement, and mining services (i.e., water, dewatering, air, power, communications, etc.).
  • Determine operating and capital cost estimations.
  • Prepare productivity calculations and mining equipment specifications.
  • Recommend selection of "fit for purpose" mining equipment and supporting life-cycle studies.
  • Develop end-of-life closure and remediation plans.
  • Manage and coordinate mining engineering projects with other engineering disciplines.
  • Review third-party technical documents and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure projects meet the requirements of industry standards, best practices, and regulations, and work within established company and industry policies and procedures.
  • Manage projects and coordinate project team activities.
  • Assist with the business process by identifying, developing, and following through on new business opportunities within BESTECH.
  • Prepare and contribute to client proposals and project budgets.
  • Attend conferences and workshops to promote work success and to learn from others, about current mining industry trends, processes, equipment, and innovations.

Position Description:

Your Role as a Principal Mechanical Engineer, P.Eng.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer, P.Eng. is an industry recognized leader in their discipline and is sought for their technical expertise. This leads to a natural acumen for business development in growing the mechanical engineering portfolio in both the types of work and the clients for which the services are offered.

As an expert in your field, you play a leadership role within a multi-discipline team to guide and mentor more junior employees while providing mechanical engineering design for detailed engineering projects. You are also responsible for leading design activities, maintaining project schedules and ensuring successful project completion.

Other responsibilities include reviewing project documents and drawings for technical quality and accuracy. You will utilize your mechanical design expertise, act as a resource for industry codes, standards, and construction methods, and contribute to the expansion of the existing Mechanical team and practice at BESTECH.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Your Role as a Principal Mechanical Engineer, P.Eng.

  • Minimum 15-years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in an engineering or project management role with a technical firm.
  • Provide subject matter technical engineering expertise, supporting the business, including reviewing technical work of others in the team.
  • Work in collaboration with Sales and Marketing on business development initiatives to maintain, nurture, and develop relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Make presentations and help develop proposals and outreach, using the required resources for support.
  • Solid client relationship management experience.
  • Knowledge, experience, and recognition in the mining industry is a definite asset.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth and development of the Mechanical team.
  • Extensive knowledge in engineering standards, codes, and guidelines with strong industrial experience. Experience in engineering design for surface and underground mining operations is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and compile operational data and prepare scopes of work, estimates, schedules, budgets, specifications, and reports.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret engineering designs, isometric drawings, P&IDs, mechanical details, layouts, and other visual aids.
  • Able to ensure that all designs will maintain a safe operating environment.
  • Extensive computer knowledge in industry applications, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, MicroStation and other specialized mechanical design platforms.
  • Must have strong numerical ability and reasoning skills.
  • Able to take the mechanical lead on a large range of project sizes.
  • Must have strong project management skills and experience in leading projects.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with exceptional report writing skills.

Job Position: Electrical Power Systems Engineer

Position Description:

Your Role as Electrical Power Systems Engineer

In your role as Electrical Power Systems Engineer, you are responsible for performing engineering design and studies for various electrical distribution and substation projects (from 600V up to 230kV voltage levels). This includes preparing electrical protection and control design deliverables, and/or physical layouts for medium and high voltage substations. You will also establish project strategy, review drawings, and ensure elements of design and detailing adhere to jurisdictional requirements and will liaise with all key stakeholders.

Your Key Accountabilities

  • Design distribution systems utilizing client standards including bill of materials, yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, ground grid, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC and DC power systems and cable lists.
  • Design protection and control scheme; including CT selection, relay wiring design and protection parameter selection using IEEE standards and applicable codes.
  • Prepare calculations and equipment specifications.
  • Prepare scope of work, estimates, schedules, budgets, specifications and reports.
  • Prepare new and modify existing relay drawings including relay panel arrangements, single lines, three lines, AC and DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.
  • Prepare new and modify existing reports/studies such as Protection and Coordination, Arc Flash, Load Flow and Grounding.
  • Develop and evaluate plans for major projects.
  • Coordinate with other discipline departments, such as civil/structural/automation to integrate packages and work activities.
  • Progressive design and project management responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to junior team members.
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel.
  • Some marketing responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications:

What YOU Bring to the Team

  • Minimum 3-years of related medium/high voltage power distribution and substation design experience and familiarity with power systems including: power systems studies (load flow and protective device coordination using Easypower, SKM and ETAP), power apparatus in utility and mining projects, project scopes, project schedules and deliverables.
  • Knowledge in engineering standards, codes and guidelines.
  • Strong industrial experience, with experience in surface and underground mining.
  • Knowledge of mining related processes a definite asset.
  • Extensive computer knowledge in industry applications, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project.
  • Able to ensure that all programs and controls maintain a safe operating environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with exceptional report writing skills.
  • Effectively liaise with engineers, designers and specialist to ensure client needs are met.

As an Electrical EIT, you will work closely with project managers while performing entry level engineering work and assistance on small to large-scale projects. Job Position: Automation Specialist

Location: Sudbury, Ontario

Position Description:

You are responsible to execute, coordinate and expedite a succession of different automation projects. Working independently in planning and carrying out project steps that require the application of mature automation knowledge, you assist in the development of new project specifications, as well as the production and testing of new products related to PLC / DCS / HMI programming.

Other major responsibilities include system commissioning, troubleshooting issues, identifying trends, process monitoring, documentation updates, data querying, operator training and participating in deviation investigations, which also involves designing, implementing, testing, and closing out change controls for automation related corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. You are capable of clearly communicating (oral and in writing) with operations personnel and support groups and provide off-site weekend/evening automation phone or on-site support.
