Job Position: Trainer (Part-time)

Location: NORCAT-Timmins

Duration: Part Time

Salary: $44 - $46 per hour

Trainer (Part-time, Timmins)

Reporting to the General Manager - Timmins, the Trainer will administer various training programs offered by NORCAT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the delivery of health and safety programs. Courses include but are not limited to:
    • Surface Miner Common Core
    • First Line Underground Supervisor Common Core
    • Generic First Line Supervisor
    • Heavy Equipment Operator
    • Working at Heights
    • Train the Trainer
    • JHSC Part 1 and Part 2
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of current and new training material
  • Assist in marketing efforts to secure specific training and development contracts with companies in the Timmins area when required
  • Assist in the development of a pipeline of customer prospects for NORCAT by selling services to potential customers in the Timmins area when required
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Minimum of three to five years of facilitation/training experience (Adult Education).
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Five or more years of working experience in either surface, underground mining, forestry and/or construction operations.
  • A Certificate in a ‘Train the Trainer’ program would be an asset.
  • Strong leadership, multi-tasking and communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Travel within Ontario is required.
  • The ability to travel within Canada and internationally is an asset.
  • Work experience in health and safety consulting is an asset.

Job Position: Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core Trainer (Full-time)

Duration: Full Time

Salary: $85,000 to 95,000 annually

Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core Trainer (Full-time)

Reporting to the Director, Underground Centre, the Trainer will be responsible for training students in the Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core MLITSD P#770010 modules. This is a full-time position, and work hours are based on a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, day shift only. On a day-to-day basis, the Trainer will work with trainees, teaching them the fundamentals of hard rock mining. The emphasis of the training delivery method will be on practical, hands-on training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of trainees on a day-to-day basis, teaching them the fundamentals of hard rock mining and ensuring delivery of training complies with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) standards as outlined in the Standards Booklets for the following modules:
    • U0000 Follow Surface and Underground Induction Procedures
    • U0001 Perform General Inspections
    • U0002 Scale Loose Rock
    • U0004 Drill Rock
    • U0005 Rock Bolt Ground
    • U0006 Blast Rock
    • U0010 Muck with LHD
    • U0011 Extend Services
    • U0012 Lock Out and Tag on Prime Movers and Related Equipment
    • U0014 Forklift Operation
  • Teach the students to drill and bolt with jackleg and stopper drills, blasting, mucking with LHD, extending services of air and water, locking and tagging, erecting wooden staging, and skills that pertain to the mining cycle
  • Ensure adherence to NORCAT safety policies and procedures
  • Provide support and/or administer select training and development programs as needed
  • Perform mine maintenance and other work at the Underground Centre as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Must be certified in Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core MLITSD Program # 770010 (please submit official transcript for review)
  • Minimum ten years of underground mining experience required
  • Minimum five years of training experience required
  • A certificate in the ‘Train the Trainer’ program would be an asset
  • Strong leadership, multi-tasking and communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
