COVID-19 Community Update

To our NORCAT Customers, Clients, and Community,

Given the announcement by the Ontario government for all non-essential businesses to close due to the escalating COVID-19 crisis, I wanted to provide an important update on NORCAT’s plan going forward, and the impact on our customers, clients, and community. Please keep in mind, we are working in unchartered waters and our plan will evolve / pivot as new information comes to light.

Given our connectedness and integration with the mining, forestry, and construction industry supply chains, we will continue to offer the following essential training and development programs that have been modified with enhanced health and safety parameters:

  • Service Type Common Core.
This program will continue to be offered at the NORCAT Underground Centre in Onaping, ON. This program is a regulated pre-requisite program that all contractors must have in advance of working on an operating mine site in Ontario. To register for this program, please go on-line at https://www.norcat.org/register/ or call 705-521-8324 Ext. 301.
  • Contractor Site-Induction Training.
We have implemented a temporary measure that enables all of our contractor site-induction clientele to complete the on-line site-induction program from a remote / home location including all final tests that are normally required to be completed in a NORCAT proctored training facility. This pertains to site induction training for Glencore / Sudbury INO, Detour Gold, Kirkland Lake Gold, Lake Shore Gold, McEwen Mining, DeBeers, and the City of Greater Sudbury. To register for any of these programs or address any technical issues, please contact your nearest office. All office contact information is included below.
  • Train-the-Trainer, Supervisor Training, and other Instructor-led / Facilitated Programs.
We have successfully migrated our instructor-led programs to adhere to social distancing parameters or to an on-line synchronous training platform whereby participants can engage in live training sessions from remote locations using the web. To register for any of these programs, please contact your nearest office. All office contact information is included below.
  • On-line Training and Development Programs.
NORCAT will continue to offer our catalog of on-line training and development programs. These programs remained unchanged and can be accessed via our on-line training catalog portal at https://norcat.org/training/registration.html. For any technical questions, please contact 705-521-8324 Ext. 450.

Unfortunately, given the significant and continued growth of COVID-19 in Ontario, we have decided to temporarily suspend operations of all non-essential, hands-on training and development programs offered at NORCAT locations across the province. Specifically, starting on Wednesday, March 25th, 2020 we are suspending our Working at Heights, Underground Hardrock Common Core, and Diamond Driller Assistant Common Core programs. At this time, we are planning to re-launch these programs as of Monday, April 20th, 2020.

We are continuing to monitor information and adhere to instructions from Public Health Sudbury & District, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the World Health Organization on an on-going basis to ensure we are in tune with the latest information / guidance and responding appropriately. In addition, we have connected with various peer organizations, government officials, customers, staff, suppliers, among others to understand key decisions and concerns that may continue to impact and / or influence our business and future operations. Given our culture and experience as an organization rooted in health and safety / industrial hygiene, I am exceptionally proud of how well everyone is managing and handling this situation at NORCAT.

Thank you for your understanding and continued trust as we manage through this time together. This is a very fluid situation and NORCAT urges everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials to keep our workplaces, families, and communities safe and healthy.

Regards,
Don Duval | CEO NORCAT | dduval@norcat.org

Given our modified operations, these four offices will be closed for training and development program delivery as of Wednesday, March 25th for four weeks. We anticipate re-opening on Monday, April 20th, 2020.
